Re: PART II: 1864 was the presentation!

Ben,

I think we all would enjoy seeing the inked words form the edge of your flag so we can look it over. Can you send us vivid pictures?

Jim Martin can tell you how to post them.

So far as the Aberdeen flag goes, the 7th Alabama Cavalry was still serving under Rucker at Nashville (as were the 5th Miss. Cavalry, 7th, 12th, 14th and 15th Tennessee Cavalry and Forrest's Old Regiment). We know the Aberdeen flag was not captured as Captain Storrs had it after the war to give to Alabama so we know this flag was not the one taken with Rucker.

All of the sources I have found state that he was with the 12th Tennessee Cavalry (CS) when they fought with the 12th Tennessee Cavalry (US) of Coon's Brigade, Hatch's Division. Coon's own report clearly states this.

I can see here how the Federals made the mistake of calling the flag they took a "brigade" flag when they also captured the brigade commander who was fighting very close to it.

The main question is this - where does your flag fit into the big picture in terms of time line? The Aberdeen flag may well have been with Rucker's Brigade at Nashville.
