I do not have all of Howie's flag data but if I correctly recall, most of the ANV flags made by the Richmond Depot were infantry sized no matter if it was infantry, cavalry or artillery. There were exceptions of course, but from a manufacturing mode cookie cutting the flags made more sense and saved time.

In 1863, the infantry flags dropped to about 45 inches square to save bunting as there was s shortage at the depot from June through mid-August, which is why Ed Johnson's Division does not get new ANV flags for the Gettysburg Campaign nor does the depot make any Second national flags until September, 1863.
