Ed, that is one heck of a find! Never came across anything on the 26th Massachusetts. Charles found many Massachusetts flags. As I say, there are hundreds more out there. How I know that, is simply Union colors found/captured by Confederate regiments/brigades are not identified yet. I added up all of the flags "in question" and came to the conclusion of 274 are known to have been captured but no owners, yet.

For an example, at 2nd Manassas, the 17th Virginia captured "Five" Colors. Only one is known (11th Pennsylvania inf regiment). So the other four colors? I do question the 55th Ohio, 75th Ohio (The regimental historian of the 75th Ohio) posted on here, about two years ago that the 75th Ohio lost one flag.

Evan's South Carolina brigade claimed to have captured "Three Colors" at 2nd Manassas. None are know.
