You need to get a copy of the book 'Texas Flags" by Robert Maberry. He found the evidence that these flags seemed to have been made in Havana, Cuba and sent to Texas via blockade runners. I believe he dates them to 1863 sometime.

We still do not know how widespread the use of these flags were nor do we know much about how many units got the variant flag - blue with red St. George's cross.
