Re: Color bearer Hardy of 3rd Alabama Infantry

Tom,
The earliest date for Hardy carrying the Colors is the battle
of Chancellorsville. He was mentioned in casualty reports as the
Color-Sgt wounded in "leg and hip, slight". Captain Bonham's
after-action report states, "Color-Bearer Sgt Hendrix A. Harding,
Co. G, was particularly distinguished for his daring".
Hardy was also wounded in the "left hand" & captured at Gettysburg.
A hospital in Petersburg lists him as a "paroled prisoner" in August
1863. He is appointed Ensign on April 20, 1864. Again wounded at the
Wilderness on May 5, 1864 "right shoulder and right leg". He was given
furlough but returned to duty and was again wounded at Bunker Hill, Va.
on August 20, 1864. He was furloughed on Feb. 3, 1865 and paroled at
Selma, Ala. on June 3, 1865.
Do you know where he is buried?

Ken
