I can't remember where I read this but it seems to me that in the Union Army, the standard staff was 1 1/2" in diameter and nine feet long. There are some origionals or were at least and I would think they still have them at the Military Museum at Camp Lincoln in Springfield. If you were to go to the Illinois National Guard website, I think there is a link to the museum and you could e-mail there for an answer. I would think that the specs for the South should be about the same. Frank
