Greg - thanks for info. Would like to pass a scenario through you - About two years ago, I was doing research on the 8th's Flag, prior to Gburg. Now, as you know the 8th lost its Flag at East Cemetery Hill. You noted the following as it relates to the process of getting flags into the field to the ANV, with honors on them:

" Nicholls' Brigade was with Ed Johnson's Division, and they got their new ANV depot flags in late August/early September, 1863 with dark blue battle honors with the last honor being for "Gettysburg." Montague also did the painted honors for these flags. The only other units that got similar flags were those of Heth's Division that lost colors there. The 2nd LA's (flag #63 at Mem. Hall) and the 10th LA's flag has the "Gettysburg" honor on it and they are from this issue. "

So, questions: Since the 8th Lost its Flag at Gburg, could it/might it have gotten a flag with honors on it, as a replacement? Then this would match up with news article that begins this thread? Or would it have just been given a 'non-honored' flag?

Thanks. Seems the more one learns about something, the more you do not know
