Hello,

I have read some accounts, but cannot recall where, that Union regiments in the West tended to not use their blue regimental colors since so many Confederate flags were based on blue as well - the Polk and Hardee pattern battle flags.

Thus, some of these regiments might have only used their national colors. I have read accounts of Federal regiments in the West doing this.
