Actually, Griffith's 17th Arkansas was not in Port Hudson and did not surrender. Prior to PH, the 11th Arkansas and 17th Arkansas were consolidated in early 1863 and mounted as mounted infantry. They were serving outside of Port Hudson under command of COL John L. Logan. If this flag of the 17th was taken it must have been in possession of a soldier of the regiment unfortunate enough to have been inside the siege. I know there were a few of the 11th Arkansas captured there who were probably stuck there due to loss of horses or sent there due to illness and then the lines closed around them. Doubt they carried much after Corinth etc since Van Dorn was no longer around and the fact that they new unit probably carried the colors of the 11th Ark since the commander was Logan of the 11th.
