Baldwin for 12 months, recorded on the August 8, 1861 Regimental Return as Color Bearer, admitted USA Prison Hospital, Camp Douglas, Ill. March 27, 1862, returned to duty April 3, 1862, readmitted April 6, returned to duty April 20, recorded absent October 31, 1862, “sent to Genl. Hospital, Lauderdale Springs, remaining absent through end of year, no further records

Andrew S. Payne, 32, 5th Corporal, Company K, 14th Regiment Mississippi Volunteers, enlisted May 25, 1861 at Corinth by Capt. Baldwin for 12 months, recorded as Color Sergt. on Regimental Return of June, 1861, captured at Ft. Donelson February 16, 1862, transferred to Camp Douglas, Ill. prison, sent to Vicksburg, Miss. for exchange, sick, September 2, 1862, recorded on September 22, 1862 as sick in hospital at Clinton, Miss., captured near Nashville December 15, 1864, sent to Camp Douglas via Louisville, Ky., arriving December 23, discharged June19,1865, resident of Lownes Co., Miss.

Note, his file contains 3 letters attesting to his conduct as Color Bearer at Ft. Donelson in addition to his brother’s recommendation of his promotion to Ensign.
