In Response To: 14th mississippi flag ()

My gg grandad, Color Sergeant Andrew "Big Andy" Stevenson Payne, was the one who cut the canton out & hid it in the lining of his coat.

Surrendered at Ft. Donaldson, and sent to Camp Douglas, near Chicago, he returned that portion upon exchange.

Co. K, "Columbus Riflemen", 14th Mississippi Infantry.

After the War, it was in the Riflemen's Armory. Subsequently, it was sent to the Mississippi Dept. of Archives & History, where it is today.

Photos may be purchased through them.
