Not 32nd Alabama

Ben and everyone,

A period newspaper account somewhat describes the flag of the 32nd Alabama flag lost at Lavergne in October 1862. From the Nashville Daily Union of October 24, 1862:

"The flag is a little faded - the colors "run" - and was presented to some Rifles..." This was written by Isaac Taylor of the 21st Ohio who actually captured the flag.

This means that the word "rifles" was on the flag taken at Lavergne.

The Columbus (OH) Weekly Enquirer called the flag, "among them a very handsome regimental flag."

So this flag was not taken by the 7th Pennsylvania Cavalry - which DID take flags in and around Middle Tennessee including Ben's flag - but where his flag was taken remains a mystery. Hopefully we can find this out at some point.
