Here’s another bit from Find a Grave. It appears to me older age may have impaired his memory.

Edward Samuel Ned’ Judge
June 25, 1842 - February 17, 1909
He enlisted as a Private . . . on August 30, 1862 . . . and was mustered in Company C [2nd Maryland] on September 18, 1862. On May 20, he was made Acting Commissary Sergeant . . . a position he appears to have held for the remainder of the war.
After the war he married Teresa Leahy on October 12, 1870, and moved to Philadelphia and founded a factory which made statuary and unbreakable dolls. Later, after losing the company in a business panic, he returned to Baltimore and in 1882 bought a little newspaper which service as a price ___________??
