Ken
... Those were a second hand claim of some other researchers reviewing same.... primary source (if there is one) not known to me at this moment awaiting replies on that topic.... Also mentioned as a reference source was a Greg Biggs written synopsis on the flag collection at the Lynchburg (Va) museum dated Aug 1996....

There is a written account from an Adjutant Harris of the 11th Va who gave claim that they retrieved their flag and returned to their side with it preventing capture at Gettysburg.... Where this specific flag may be now is the mystery... one claim is that it did survive and is in a private collection reportedly purchased at auction... No reference of when or where.... no other details available. Knowing that many here have records of past flag auctions and many of those out there in private hands... thought worth the shot in the dark to see if anyone had anything on it...

The other flag associated with the 11th Va was captured at Five Forks (WD-322) which is an unmarked RD ANV 3rd Bunting.. (MOC collection) of the earlier 3rd bunting pattern style the same as all the other Pickett Division units received as a replacement in latter 1863... Pondered if their flag did survive at G'burg, Odd that they would receive as replacement so soon.... If it didn't survive... where is it if known to anyone...
Thanks
Frederick
