Colonel P. W. H. Cummings, in command of the Sixteenth Missouri Volunteer Infantry when the regiment surrendered at Shreveport, La., on June 7, 1865, is dead, and the Colonel’s two daughters were present with the old battle flag and the Colonel's sash, which he had preserved for many years. An organization was effected to take charge of these relics and to keep the members of the old regiment in closer touch with each other. Lieutenant D. P. Weems of Company E, who was Adjutant of the regiment, presented the old battle flags.
