Re: Reversed color 2nd National

I would imagine that by that time "after action reports" for the Confederacy were pretty low priority. ;-)
From what I gather the fighting at Paine's Crossroads on April 5 pretty much set the stage for the battle at Saylor's Creek the next day. Lee was trying to meet up with a supply train at Amelia Springs (nearby to Paine's Crossroads) but it turns out it was a ordinance train with little or no provision. Lee sent foragers out into the country side, but they weren't able to gather much in the way of food. However, the delay allowed Grant's heavy infantry to catch up to Lee's fleeing forces and Saylor's Creek became the last major battle before the surrender at Appomattox. Minor skirmishing continued between Lee's forces and Union cavalry and advanced infantry up to and including April 9. That much I've found out. What I would like to discover is what Confederate units were involved in the fighting around Paine's Crossroads and whether or not the flag in question was captured in battle or taken from the ordinance train.
