Note that grommets are most often affixed to a header which is not the same material as the flag itself. Most larger flags of wool bunting had a cotton or canvas header to which the grommets were attached. Although many, if not most, silk flags and colors had pole sleeves or ribbon ties, it is not unreasonable to expect a silk flag to have a cotton header, and grommets affixed to that header. Unfortunately I do not recall seeing any ACW silk flags with headers and grommets.
