"Joseph T. McBride remained the regimental Color Bearer in all battles and skirmishes involving the Mississippi 3rd Battalion/45th Regiment Infantry during their campaigns of 1863 and 1864, until a fateful evening in November 1864. Joseph T. was killed in action at the Battle of Franklin on Nov. 30, 1864, after planting the Mississippi 3rd Battalion/45th Regiment's battle flag on top of the Union's breastworks, probably near the southwest corner of Carter's Cotton Gin in front of the 104th Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry."
