Cleburne had nothing to do with the flag's design or adoption. As part of Hardee's Army of Central KY, they adopted the flag designed by Buckner after the latter took part of his division to Fort Donelson. The other half, which included the 24th Tennessee whose Buckner/Hardee flag survived until the 1960s, remained behind becoming Hardee's Corps for Shiloh.

Cleburne had nothing to do with that decision to use that flag that I have ever seen until 1864 when he refused to give it up for the Augusta Depot flags imposed by Joe Johnston.

Hardee was of Irish descent by the way.
