There is a flag requisition for this very flag in the Compiled Service Record of Lt. J.P. Butler dated March 2, 1864 from Mobile.

It was not until later that the appliqued battle honors were put on the flag however as there is the invoice for Kate Condren, also of Mobile in her file in the Confederate Citizens & Business Papers, dated September 27, 1864 but she billed the sewing in April. She charged $50 for "putting inscriptions on Battle flag of 1st Louisiana Artillery."
