This comes from William E. Trahern, Co. D. I got it from the Richmond National Battlefield Park and the original is in the Virginia Historical Society. “The ladies were also alert and in patriotic demonstration, and proved their great value from the very beginning by making and presenting to the Company, a beautiful flag. It was made of deep blue silk on one side, the center being filled with the imitation of a cotton bale, wrought in pure gold. The other side consisted of white and red silk, with the appropriate number of Stars (13) in the top inside corner. The edges were trimmed with pure gold fringe. It was too beautiful to be shot at, and never was.”
