Ken,

here we go:

Columbus McManus - as of August 1863 he had been captured at Gettysburg on July 4th and exchanged but yet to be returned. He spent some time in a hospital in New York in July 1863 and when exchanged also spent time in Richmond hospitals through September 1863. He was present in late April 1864 with the regiment. He was captured near Petersburg on October 27 1864. He was exchanged in March 1865. Not your guy.

Edwin McManus - Enlisted as a private in 1861. Wounded at some point prior to January 1864 - still wounded in April/May. He was wounded at Gettysburg on July 1, 1863 but made it back to Richmond and hospital there. He was elected a 3rd Lieutenant in August 1863.

George McManus - Enlisted as a private in 1861. He is listed as wounded in the left heel at Gettysburg and captured on July 2, 1863. He was in the hospital in Baltimore in late September 1863. In October 1863 he was in the hospital in Raleigh, NC and in January 1864 on wounded furlough with what would be a permanent disability. He did become a shoe maker however. He was captured in Raleigh in April 1865.

Henry McManus - Enlisted as a private in 1861. In September 1863 he is listed as wounded and in a hospital in Richmond. In January 1864 he is still listed as wounded in the hospital and was there through May. By September 1864 he is on detached duty for the rest of the year. He is back in the ranks in January 1865. He was captured at Petersburg in April 1865. It never says in his CSR where he was wounded in 1863.

That's all the information the cards have. Your guess is as good as mine as to who the McManus is in the color bearer account you cited.
