Re: 3rd old/new Miss. in Tennessee 1864

Ben,

That is exactly what I am saying. I have invoices for September 1863, for example, of Jacob Gall of a LA regiment who had been detached in May to be Gen. Hardee's personal tailor (he had sewing skills evidently) for making new Hardee flags for his corps in September 1863. We suspect that these are the flags with the vertical ovals on them, several of which were taken on Missionary Ridge.

I also have invoices from dry goods dealers in Corinth, MS for selling cloth for making flags for Hardee's Corps as it states on these invoices.

I have doubts that the August 1862 issues of the Polk Corps flags were made in depots either. The silk versions of January 1862 were made by a Memphis flag maker from the same bolts of cloth - possibly by James Cameron.

Keep in mind that back then loads of men knew how to sew and many men in the army had been/were tailors.
