11TH ALABAMA INFANTRY

Description: The 11th Alabama Infantry Regiment was enlisted at Lynchburg, Virginia June 17,1861. It was made up of men from Bibb, Clarke, Fayette, Greene, Marengo, Perry, Pickens, Tuscaloosa and Washington counties. The regiment wads first under fire at Seven Pines where it lost 9 killed and 49 wounded. It charged the enemy at Gaines Mill and lost 27 killed and 129 wounded. But it was at Frazier's Farm three days later that the 11th and other regiments of the brigade charged across an open field and engaged in a bloody struggle over the enemy's batteries and lost the commanding officers of eight companies and a total of 182 killed and wounded. It lost 25 killed and wounded at 2nd Manassas.
