Re: 24th WI at Franklin

Hello,

Actually, the 24th Wisconsin captured the flag of the 7th Texas Infantry at Franklin (at least that is the one that I definitely know about). Instead of it being a Cleburne/Hardee flag, which the regiment received but chose not to use here, the flag is indeed a rectangular ANV style flag although not one of the Augusta or Mobile Depot styles. This is home made, bears 15 stars and a unit designation and battle honors including the crossed cannons. The flag dates to 1863 and the time when the 7th Texas had been exchanged from Fort Donelson at the Vicksburg exchange point.

I have seen images of this flag and know who owns it and its history as coming from the family of an officer of the 24th Wisconsin (although this officer was not MacArthur).

Which unit history has the flag capture details please?
