The only Minnesota battery present at Shiloh was the 1st Minnesota Light Artillery Battery. It only saw action on the 6th of April. However, its camp was overrun at the start of the battle and it just escaped from being captured with Prentiss's Division at the Hornet's Nest. Its flag might have been lost in either of these cases. A flag of the 1st Minnesota Battery presently exists in St Paul, but from its appearance it almost certainly dates from later in the war.
