Interestingly, although the flag is marked with details of the 9th Tenn Vol Inf, the Southern Confederates are listed at the bottom of the canton as Co. 8 which on checking the records on Fold3 it appears that the companies were originally numbered rather than the normal letter and eventually became Co. C
