Thanks Greg, Yes that does help and I had thought the flags would have been taken as trophies of war but was not certain. It's strange that you said Blair because I was thinking prior to your post that some Union political generals might have taken some flags with them. I would imagine that many company flags were also taken. Learning on who some of Blair close friends were might also turn up some results along family lines.

I went to the Case Western Reserve Library near Cleveland, Ohio when I was a kid back in the mid 1960's and saw many trophies that Union troops had brought back home from Vicksburg. The only thing that sticks in my mind today was the wall paper newspapers from Vicksburg. My guess is that many people in the smaller museums across the North may not even recognize a company flag if they had one. Many items are not on display but rather held in artifact rooms within the historical societies.

I am assuming that along 1906 when Congress authorized the return of Battle Flags that Company Flags were not included. Please correct me if you believe I'm incorrect. Of course Minnesota still have a Confederate Flag from Gettysburg as I sure you are aware of in their state which they refuse to give back from my understanding. Sometimes I run across some strange things in my travels and if I see something I'll try and take a photograph and surely let you know Greg. I suspect that many of these company flags still exist somewhere.
