Three color bearers of 51st Georgia

Another item from the Memoirs of Georgia, per recent posts, volume 2, pp. 746-748. 750. Actually the biographies of three soldiers, all hailing from Randolph County, Georgia, and all three members of Company H, 51st Georgia. During J. T. Bailey's service he was promoted to Ensign with the rank of first lieutenant, until Cedar Creek in September 1864, when his left arm was shattered by a minie ball, which resulted in his discharge from the service. The previous entry, on W. S. Arrington, explains that when J. T. Bailey fell at Cedar Creek, Arrington took the colors from his hands. However, Arrington held them for only a few minutes, until he too was shot (in the side), when he passed them to another, unnamed, comrade. A separate entry on George W. Dozier indicates that he was color bearer of the regiment over a two-year period, as a first lieutenant.
