Re: Ensign, 2nd Kentucky (Mounted) Infantry

Good points, as to this thread, the notation was made that “This company subsequently became Company A, 2nd Regiment Kentucky (Mounted) Infantry”

In future, in these cases, I’ll try to ID the date of change.

I have a similar problem with my ggrandfather and his brothers who enlisted in the 43rd Tennessee Infantry when organized late in 1861. They served as Infantry through Vicksburg, and on exchange, they were mounted in December 1863, serving thereafter as Cavalry. Although, the War Department CSMRs note them as Mounted Infantry thereafter. Although, leaving their horses behind when they entrained for Virginia, they served dismounted at Piedmont and through the march on Washington until their horses arrived mid-July. All their reports refer to them as Cavalry in BGen. J. C. Vaughn’s Cavalry Brigade and serving as Cavalry escort to President Davis on his flight south at wars end.
