Re: Corinth, 2nd Texas, Army of the West

Ben and others,

Here's an article from a period Texas newspaper about the flag that the 2nd Texas used at Shiloh it seems:

Houston Tri-Weekly Telegraph, April 23, 1862

"Captain Timmons writes that the Confederate Guards' battle flag had eight bullet holes through if, one passing through the staff. The flag was made by Mrs. Fabj of this city."

The Confederate Guards were Company B of the 2nd Texas Infantry. Sadly no description of the flag. The 2nd Texas recruited from the lower south part of the state in and around Houston. Other period newspapers may have more details including flag presentations. It is possible that their flag was used as the regimental colors at Shiloh therefore. There are a number of times when a company banner was used as the regimental colors early in the war. The 15th Mississippi used those of the Yalobusha Rifles at Mill Springs in January 1862 for example.
