The Civil War Flags Message Board

Book Review

I just finished reading John Michael Priest's outstanding new book (2014). "Stand to It and Give Them Hell." "Gettysburg as the Soldiers experienced it from Cemetery Ridge to Little Round Top, July 2nd, 1863.

On Page 358: "First Sergeant James L. Born (Co.C Cobb's GA Legion, BG. Wofford's GA Brigade) yanked the flag staff (Regimental Flag) from Col. Jefford's dead hands and carried it from the field."

On Page 359: "Private Alford Norris, (Co.E Phillip's Legion, BG. Wofford's GA Brigade) captured a "Company Marker" from the 62nd Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment."

Thus, the 4th Michigan saved their National Flag. The 62nd Pennsylvania saved both of their colors (National/Regimental).

The 62nd Pennsylvania losing a "Company Marker" was new to me.

John Michael Priest is a great historian/book author and his book was excellent.

I thought I would pass that information on.

Have a good evening,
