Re: Colour Sergeant/Ensign 26th Virginia Infantry

However, in this case, [Christopher] C. Crump is listed as Ensign on the Field and Staff listing found in the OR Supplement, Record of Events for Twenty-sixth Virginia Infantry, April 1861-February 1865.

This is where I found reference to his position. The Fold.3 folks somehow overlooked and did not include Unit Information in their CSR work.

However, in their file for him, his rank is shown as Ensign on card #4 denoting his appointment June 22, 1864 to rank June 17, 1864, delivered Dept. Ala [sp?], Ga. & Fla. by the Secretary of War, J. ? Seddon. Card #34 also records his appointment as Ensign June 17, 1864 while Card #35 only notes his rank of Ensign.

A War Department note dated May 10, 1917 [Card #38] records him as:

Pvt. Co. A, 26 Va. Infantry
Acty Color Sgt., 26th Va. Infantry
Ensign, 26th Va. Infantry
