Correspondence on 31st Virginia flag

The digital collections of West Virginia University (https://www.libraries.wvu.edu/collections/exhibits/Roy_Cook_jpg) contain a trove of documents from the collection of Roy Bird Cook on the 31st Virginia Infantry. Included is a March 13, 1949 letter from Marguerite J. Downing, as follows: "... my mother, Mrs. E. D. Talbott, who makes her home with me, still has the flag of the 31st Va., also copies of the letter written by my great aunt, Mrs. Rebecca [See or Sue] when she sent this flag to Col. J. S. Hoffman of the 31st Virginia, and of Col. Hoffman's letter of thanks written from camp near Sommerville Ford, Va. dated April 14th, 1864. We also have my grandfather's list of battles in which this flag was carried ... "
