These 15 stripes and/or 15 stars flags were wider spread than many think. I have a nice thick file on pre-1861 secession flags and they run the gamut of designs but largely stick to some variant of the Stars and Stripes. After all, it was not the flag they were angry with, since so many Southerners had fought for it- but the government. This is why the overwhelming number of submissions for the CS First National flag were inspired by the Stars and Stripes.
