RARE CONFEDERATE ARTILLERY GUIDON, 4th MARYLAND LIGHT: Original Swallowtail Guidon of the 4th Maryland or Chesapeake Battery, Maryland Line of the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia. Organized in 1862, also Know as Brown's Battery after their Commander, William D. Brown of Baltimore, Maryland. Fought in the Peninsula Campaign, Cedar Mountain, 2nd Manassas, Harper's Ferry, Hamilton Crossing, Fredericksburg, & Gettysburg where Captain Brown was Killed. The Battery Fought in the Defense of Richmond, up to Fort Gregg, where Most of the Battery was Captured after a Stout Defense. Sgt. J.D. Reynolds and 11 Privates Surrendered with Gen. Lee at Appomattox Court House. The Guidon with Red Maryland Cross on White Ground with Red Trim, Faded with at least 8 Bullet Holes. The Guidon is 19" x 38" in a Swallow Tail Style. It is Framed in a 30" x 50" Gilt Wood and Gesso Ornate Frame with Oak Leaves Design. In Remarkable Condition for Service and Age. Guidon was never Captured or Surrendered. Card in Frame State "Artillery Guidon of Chesapeake (Maryland) Artillery Commanded by Capt. Wm. D. Brown. Collected from Ms. Emma Brown, 1933. In Artillery Brigade of Brig. Gen.
