To be honest, if it's good enough for Howie Madeus and Gregg, it's good enough for me. I agree that the rest of Sear's Brigade carried Mobile depot flags, and it does seem a bit odd that the 46th would carry a Charleston. However, that's not the only similar anomaly in the Western theater, though. The 9th Texas Cavalry lost an ANV pink silk flag at Corinth (currently held in the Georgia Capitol collection as "unidentified but matching the description of a flag lost by a Texas cavalry unit at Corinth" per their Confederate Flag Collection book) and the four Texas units in Ector's Brigade surrendered ANV 4th buntings at Spanish Fort while the two N.C units under Ector carried 12 star Mobile Depot flags. So much for standardization.
