Re: transporting a flag by car?

Greg:

The flag won't be retrieved for several weeks -- hopefully by June 1st or so.

Why don't you post me a reminder about then?

I'm sure that I'll be able to get all of the photos I want of the flag when it is returned to Mississippi.

I understand your wishing that the flag would go to the State of Mississippi, and we have been working with the State for seventeen years to restore/conserve the flags in its collection. So, I know some of the people in the MS Dept. of Archives & History.

I am incredibly grateful to their allowing us to conserve the flags.

However, the flags in their collection basically can't be seen by the general public at the current time, and won't be seen by same until a new MS Museum of History is built, which won't be until the economy has turned around.

When that museum is built, we in the Confederate community are hoping that the flags will be displayed in a manner that is respectful of our people and our unique history and not in a politically correct manner. We believe that the new museum's staff and management will meet our expectations.

However, as a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, I am thrilled that Beauvoir (owned by the MS Division/SCV) will be the owners of the flag.

And I am absolutely sure that this flag will be on display to the public, as it should be, as soon as the museum opens (probably in Spring 2013).

Do remind me about the photos come June, okay? Thanks! -- Jim Huffman, MS Div., SCV, "Save the Battleflags" Committee
