My ancestor, William C. Laney, enlisted in the Confederate service in 1861. His Regiment was assigned to what eventually became Longstreets Corps, in the Army of Northern Virginia. He remained in the C.S. army until being captured at the Battle of The Wilderness in 1864. Prior to that, he was engaged in every major battle of the Army of Northern Virginia. Sharpsburg, Fredricksburg, Gettysburg, and went with Longstreet to Georgia in fall of 1863 and fought at Chickamauga. During this time, they had a battleflag which would have seen service in some of the worst fighting of the war. I wonder if anyone has any idea whether the flag still exists, and if so, where it might be or if there is an image of it?
Thanks,
Greg Mitchell
