The Civil War Flags Message Board

Second Fair Oaks, Union Colors captured

That is excellent news on the 89th NY and 148th NY.

I also have the 5th MD, 10th NH and 96th NY losing flags in Colonel Cullen's Second Brigade, BG. Martston's division, 18th Corps, MG. Weitzel.

The 1st (Raulston) and 2nd Brigade (Patterson) of the same division (Martston's) had very low losses, I do not believe those two brigades lost any flags.

The Second Division led by BG. Heckman, had only two brigades. The first brigade (Colonel Ripley) had the 8th Maine (58 loss) and 9th Vt (19 loss).

The 3rd Brigade (Colonel Fairchild)

89th NY, 139 Loss
148th NY, 84 loss
2nd PA HA---2 loss
19th Wis---141 loss

The 19th Wisconsin lost their Regimental Colors. I did not know the 89th NY and 148th NY lost flags. Great job on that!!!

BG. Marston admitted that his "Second Brigade" (Colonel Cullen) lost "Three Stands of Colors" (5th MD, 10th NH and 96th NY)

MG. Field admitted his Confederate division captured, "Seven Stand of Colors".

I also have a report that a total of "Eleven Stand of Colors captured" "North of Richmond, Field's position. I have "Four Stand of Colors" captured "Williamsburg Road, Henrio Poor-House, Charles City Road). That would add up from Seven captured flags plus those four, equals, Eleven.

It just takes tons of time reading hundreds of books and going up and down the Official Records.

Thank you for all the hard work you have put into this!

Have a great weekend,
