Re: 72nd Ohio Flag to be Preserved

Hello Gents,

The details presented on the Sundusky flag may be somewhat misleading. I am not so sure that the ladies of Fremont did any more than embroidering the unit designation. Several other Ohio regiments (the 26th, 42nd, 58th, 76th, and 121st Infantry) carried identical regimental colours, leading me to believe that these flags all came from a common source. The 72nd Ohio flag was probably purchased from a flag manufacturer and the the ladies of Fremont added the "72nd FORT STEPHENSON / REGIMENT O.V." designation. The other aforementioned flags all were inscribed with the unit desigantion of "XX REGIMENT / O.V.U.S.A." but otherwise were of an identical pattern.
