Can't you just imagine Pvt Doud marching into battle, his rifle raised high in the air, one brass loop of this flag secured on his bayonet, with the ring at the other end of the halyard looped on the bayonet of his compatriot, six feet away, with the field of ten stripes flying for 12 feet behind them?

Surely Don Troiani or Mort Kunstler must have painted this dramatic scene!?!

What's more, how fortunate that the defenseless Doud survived the war to bring this relic back home!
