Another topic: Curious for information on what type of fixtures/connecters these multi-sectioned signal flags used?. Noting that many infantry staffs were probably a single piece pole. However many of us that also do reenactments/living history programs one cant always fit a 9 footer in the vehicle to take to an event, so many are trying to find at least a reasonable authentic alternative to construct a two section staff that at least has a "period" connector of some sort.
Ive only noted one Infantry staff that was "reported" to have been a Richmond QM issued that was two piece. This was the flag of the 10th Va that the bearer took home. It sold out of the family back about 1979 then was recently resold at auction with the pole. The pole had a brass or copper sleeve. Fixed to the bottom half and had a zig-zag expansion cut into the open end. Place the top section into it and it had two external adjustable wing-nut type of fasteners that held it secure. The large animated sized Spear point at the top was reported to be wooden and painted. I havent seen any others like this one and I had to really scratch my head about it. It looked to me more like something crudely home made for later display than something actually military issued.
