This battalion served with William Hicks Jackson's cavalry division inn 1863 before the latter got their Mobile Depot battle flags in October of that year. As with most CS cavalry in the west, the predominant flag pattern used was the First National.

When this battalion morphed into the 9th Mississippi Cavalry they would have received the Mobile Depot flag.
