Hello Ed,

Regrettably I have yet to run across an original HQ Quartermaster’s flag above the Corps level, and I’m not sure there was one. The Quartermaster’s Museum does not have a file for a HQ flag, period 1861-1865, that I could find but it’s still an excellent museum.

To add to your mix on an ordnance flag, outside of the Corps, U. S.. Annin & Company made fourteen U. S. Ordnance Department flags for the Army of the Cumberland, circa 1863-1864. Per General Orders No. 91, 25th April 1863. The flags had a medium green (cotton) bunting field with appliqued white crossed cannons, encompassed by a white belt or “garter” and painted black lettering “U. S. Ordnance Department”.

On the Confederate side, HQ Ordnance Department flag had a blue filled with gold color embroidered crossed cannon, belt, cannon ball and lettering.

I hope this helps in your quest.

Happy Trails!
Tom Martin
