The date cannot be correct. You will recall my earlier post in which General Forrest assigned Rucker to command of Neely's Cavalry Brigade on Aug. 30, 1864. You'll also recall that due to resentment and dissention, Rucker's authority wasn't recognized immediately, prompting Forrest to relieve several regimental commanders by mid-September.

It would be interesting to determine when Col. Rucker and any elements of his command were camped in or near Aberdeen MS. We know that the 7th Alabama Cavalry arrived by rail at Meridian at the end of September. If Rucker's escort company was present at the time, the date could not have been earlier than mid-October of 1864. Remember that Rucker was with Forrest, raiding north of the Tennessee River from Sept. 23rd until Oct. 10th.
