I just recently purchased two U.S. flags (a 45 star and an early 48 star) separately and didn't realize both were from the same company, Copeland Manufacturers of Washington DC. It seems I have heard of this company before but can't remember from where. (I am over 50 so a need a little slack). The workmanship on the 45 star flag is outstanding. the grommets are thick heavy brass and even have a patented pending date of 1884 embossed on them. The large stars are tightly tucked under and sewn on perfectly even. In any case I realize most Union flags were contracted outside the capital during the War but I was hoping someone in our community maybe had maybe heard of this company and if they were in business that far back. I have tried doing a search but having no luck.
