Re: 1864 was the presentation!

Hi Ben,

As stated in my last post, the flag is a post war flag. I was told by the SCV Ruckers Camp that it was the flag of Ruckers Confederate Veteran camp. Usually, if the veteran’s did not have their original battle flag handy, one would be made, a copy of the original.

This does not look like your flag or the 1895 Alabama State flag.

I guess what I’m asking, did the veteran’s that served under Ruckers intentionally not have a flag made to look like the original, and why? But again, if this is a copy of their original flag, whats up?

I was not the one who questioned the inspector’s mark on the ANV flags. What I was told by the MoC (Mrs. Rose), was, that they are post war marking made by the war department before the flags were returned. I have read that the ANV’s were inspected before the contractors were paid but I have never read that the Richmond Depot inspector marked the flags. If it is so, that the Richmond Depot put an inspector mark on their flags it would seem that more flags that survive would have the same markings.

Just conversation here, no disrespect intended on my part.

Happy Trails!
Tom Martin

P.S. That’s for the measurements on the AoT flag.
