Michael, yes I would say the very common double bag M1855 Knapsack would serve fine for a late war impression in about any theater of the war and the soft pack is easy on the back. its brass hardware is found on sites from the east to the trans-Mississippi. By 1864 you could say it was a battlefield "pickup" if necessary. The repo of the M1855 may save you a few bucks over other repo knapsack models, I'd shop around. I found the brass hardware to a M1855 at the 1862 Confederate Camp Nelson, Arkansas site, even though these troops had very little equipage.
