Re: St. Louis Hawken kit circa 1960's

Dr Massey,

I thought you would find this interesting since you reside in Arizona. A friend of mine from Caroline County, Virginia (the 9th mustered in at Bowling Green) owned the last battleflag carried by the 9th Virginia Cavalry. Company B was the color company. His great great grandfather was Walter Scott Callis and was the unit's color bearer. He cut it from it's staff and wrapped it around his body and made a hasty escape from Appomattox. The flag remained in family hands until about 2 years ago. My friend, who has since passed after a battle with cancer sold the flag to Julia's Auction House in Maine. The flag has been restored and conserved and now resides with a collector in California. It is a fifth bunting issue ANV flag. You can see pictures of it on my reenacting unit's facebook page. www.facebook.com/3rdrichmondhowitzers.
